A recently presented study* found that many people restrict their lives because of anxieties about their pouch change and disposal routine. Furthermore, that dissatisfaction with pouch disposal is associated with greater negativity towards having a stoma.
The study concluded by calling on ostomy care professionals to think about the implications of people’s attitudes towards disposal before making a product recommendation. It was pointed out that user choice is paramount, and that there is an alternative means of disposal available to colostomates that can address the issues that cause problems for many people.
