If you are a colostomate, do you sometimes avoid social and leisure activities (staying with friends; public transport; large gatherings; etc) because of your stoma care routine?
Do you feel less confident than you used to about getting out and about – and that sometimes your stoma rules your life?
Even if this doesn’t describe you exactly, do you wish there was an easier, cleaner, faster and more discreet way of dealing with a used appliance?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, take heart – you are not alone.
A recently presented study* found that many people restrict their lives because of anxieties about their pouch change and disposal routine. Furthermore, that dissatisfaction with pouch disposal is associated with greater negativity towards having a stoma.
The study concluded by calling on ostomy care professionals to think about the implications of people’s attitudes towards disposal before making a product recommendation. It was pointed out that user choice is paramount, and that there is an alternative means of disposal available to colostomates that can address the issues that cause problems for many people.
If you want an easier, cleaner, faster and more discreet approach to stoma care that makes a positive contribution to your wellbeing, consider Flair Xtra®. We designed it just for that purpose, and to bring greater freedom to life!
